Youngcare Apartments at Coomera have received a donation from the late Jessica Dunne, of a Giger Medical Device. This valuable piece of therapy equipment will help improve mobility for the disabled young people living in care at Youngcare Coomera. The item was funded by a wonderful group of parents and friends from “All Saints Anglican School”, where Jessica attended school.
Janine Kallinikos organised a fundraiser night in 2010 to purchase this $20,000.00 item through Dream Workers that will now be used by the larger community for rehabilitation.

Hello Dream Workers and friends,
Most of you know about my daughter Jess but here is a brief outline of her story and the outcome of the essential therapy equipment purchased with funds raised for Jess and now being donated to Young Care Qld.
In August 2008 my daughter Jessica, aged 19 years, became ill with Meningitis and she was rushed to hospital and remained in a critical condition for a few days. Surgery was performed to keep Jess alive but it left her with a severe brain injury resulting from all loss of movement and speech. Breathing was through a tracheotomy with food and fluids absorbed via a feeding tube into her stomach. After a year in hospital Jess came home to be cared for with a busy daily itinerary that included physio, exercise and too many other forms of rehab to mention. A trip to China was undertaken to try stem cell therapy. This resulted in Jess being able to smile and laugh a little for the first time since her illness. Unfortunately after 10 months at home Jess slipped away in the early hours one morning due to respiratory failure.
My Jess aged 21 years passed away on 6th October 2010 and it is now that I am arranging a donation on Jess’s behalf of the wonderful equipment that was needed for her rehabilitation.
The item I am referring to is the ” Giger MD” developed and made in Switzerland for a range of disabilities from babies to adults. This $20,000.00 piece of equipment was bought with donations from NCJW fundraisers and the wider community on the Gold Coast.
Jess used this equipment everyday to keep her body subtle and to stop her arms and legs seizing up with spasticity. http://www.gigermd.com/ Click onto this link to see the device.
The recipient of this piece of rehabilitation equipment, the Giger MD, plus a “tilt table”(to enable a person to be raised in an upright position) will be “Young Care” in Queensland.
Young Care is an organisation dedicated to helping young people live in appropriate care an not an aged care facility. The apartments will be opened soon with 8 one bedroom apartments for young people with a disability to live in with full time carers on call at all time. The common gym area at the Coomera Apartments will house the donated equipment from Jess.

I want to let all you wonderful people whom donated funds for Jess’s equipment know that these items will now be placed where many people will be able to benefit from first class rehabilitation equipment.
warmest regards

Renovations to Jade Elliott's bathroom are now completed thanks to the support of the GC Community.
14 year old Jade suffers from muscular dystrophy and was having difficulty in accessing her toilet, shower and bathroom in her electric wheelchair. However, thanks to the support of some fantastic local businesses and trades people we have totally changed the bathroom so that Jade is now able to access it on her own, and even wheel herself up to the vanity and brush her teeth without assistance.
On behalf of Dream Workers, we sincerely thank the following people:
-
Jamie McMaster of Macline Plumbing
-
Paul Lathouras of Superior Group Ceilings
-
Simon Pugh of Harvey Norman Commercial
-
Glenn Nugent of Beaumont Tiles
-
Ron Della Piana of RJ Electrical
-
Max Solovastru of MMS Building Services
You have made a huge difference in the life of a deserving young lady.

A conference was held by Asterton recently and they fined people for some offences including being late etc. A big thank you to Asterton for choosing Dream Workers to receive this generous donation.

Renovations are well under way for the Elliott family's bathroom for 14 year old Jay, who suffers from muscular dystrophy. A huge thanks must go out to all the trades and suppliers who have helped with the renovations.

It is with sadness that I write you this message to let all our loving supporters know that our sweet Caroline passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning (29/11/2011) after 14 months of being in the family home. She left us peacefully and according to Emma, “Mummy’s with the stars”.
Jim and Emma are holding strong with lots of support from family and friends.
We say our final farewell to her on Monday.
Thanks for all your chats, advice and support in so many ways.
Love,
Jeanette Betts ( On behalf of James Colby)
