Matilda (Tilly) is a delightful, cheeky and intelligent 3 year old with Cerebral Palsy who lives on the Gold Coast with parents Angie and Andy and her four month old brother Rudy. Tilly’s Cerebral Palsy affects all four limbs meaning she has significant difficulty controlling and utilising the muscles throughout her body. This means simple things that we take for granted are a struggle for Tilly, such as sitting, crawling, walking, using her hands and verbal communication.
Tilly’s needs are high and she requires full assistance with feeding and all her daily activities. However with early intervention, equipment, specialised care and hard work, outcomes for her future can be enhanced.
For a 3 year old, Tilly is a pretty busy social girl. Tilly has a week jam-packed as mum Angie and Rudy travel with her to Brisbane twice a week for Tilly to attend “Xavier Special School. This school has a “Conductive Education” programme where Matilda works on her movement. Tilly also has regular visits to her Physiotherapist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist and she often sees a Chiropractor, Dietician and Naturopath and she does many hours of play based therapy at home with her mum too.
Costs of equipment for children with a disability are simply unaffordable for a young family without financial help.
Currently Tilly is needing the following items:
1. A manual wheelchair
2. A standing frame
These 2 pieces of equipment will make it easier for Tilly in all day to day activities. It will also enable her to be easily included in activity at preschool, which she starts in 2012.
