Sonja Falvo of Real Body Enterprises shared her knowledge on "6 Ways to Position Yourself as an Expert in Your Field."
Build Your Own Unique Selling Position
It is people's perception of you that is what sells you.
The world needs to be saturated with information about you.
Carefully choose your select market
If your market is too broad, narrow it down or you won't be an expert
Know why you do things differently and uniquely then you can transfer this into your marketing
Be very careful on what you want to convey in your marketing campaign
What can you call yourself that is unique and still convey what you are eg rather than a personal trainer, you can be a called a great body guru.
Spend 5 minutes just writing ideas without thinking about it too much.
Build Your Basic Credibility
your email address should reflect your domain name as people will google you so don't have a yahoo or gmail website address or it's difficult for people to find you.
The Contact Us section of your website should have at least 5 different email addresses to contact someone - it gives the perception that you are a large business eg info@, marketing@, contact@, mail@
Become a Writer
the purpose of being a writer is to demonstrate that you are an expert
don't hold back information with people thinking that they only want your notes. The more information that you give people, the more credible you appear.
make up a list of tips/strategies and new information in your area of expertise to start with.
Write newsletters and also write for other related businesses.
Write for article banks where people upload articles for free, then link it back to your website.
People can use your articles so long as they promote you.
Approach magazines and online magazines but meet their guidelines. You may need to persist before your articles are published.
Once you have mastered all of the above, you are ready to write an e book, which can be as long or as short as you wish.
Self publish a book, which gives you more credibility.
Use Blogging and Social Media
Sign up to blogging and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
Have your own blog, but make sure you keep your personal life out of it. You need to keep your business professional.
Answer questions online that people have in your area of expertise - you get to be seen regularly by clients and prospectives, so you can start to build a relationship.
Networking
This puts you in front of other businesses and you can build a strategic alliance with them.
Just ensure that other businesses compliment you.
If you become involved socially in your field, your name is going out to other businesses and your database grows.
People want to know who you are when you keep being seen in your industry.
Circuit Braining
Hold workshops and get involved in public speaking
start small
shows you are an expert in your field
contact local businesses and council to find similar businesses
find your target market
