Matilda Wilson Appeal

Written on the 12th of December 2012

Matilda (Tilly) is a delightful, cheeky and intelligent 4 year old with Cerebral Palsy who lives on the Gold Coast with parents Andy and Angie and her one year old brother Rudy.  Tilly's Cerebral Palsy affects all four limbs meaning she has significant difficulty controlling and utilising her muscles throughout her body.  This means the simple things that we take for granted are a struggle for Tilly, such as sitting, crawling, walking, using her hands and verbal communication.

We are appealing for donations towards two items for Tilly:

1. A specialised bicycle to help strengthen and stretch Tilly's muscles
2. A specialised supportive chair enabling her to learn functional sitting skills while she participates in activities at home and at school.

These two pieces of equipment will make it easier for Tilly in her daily activities.

If you would like to send your support to Tilly, please click here to make a tax deductible donation. All donations received will contribute towards Tilly receiving a much needed manual wheelchair and a specialised standing frame.

More information can be found about Matilda here.

April 2013 Update

In March, Sally Desbois submitted a Sunsuper Dream for Tilly to receive a $5000 grant towards Conducive Education Therapy costs and you can read some further information here.  We are excited to announce that Tilly has won the $5000 grant and we would like to extend a big thank you to SunSuper, the community and everyone that voted.

March 2013 Update

A big thanks to Merrimac SHS who made a profit of $146 on their raffle for Tilly and combined with the money raised by Rockhampton Grammar, takes our total funds raised for Tilly up to $767.45.

Tilly's Movie Day

Angie’s friends...Michelle & Stephanie organised the day at Robina Cinema’s and nearly filled the entire cinema for the special showing of “Pitch Perfect”. They had cinema 5 for the fundraiser and raised over $5,000.00 on the day. This was achieved by the purchase of tickets, silent auction and donations into Dream Workers donation boxes.

More information about the day can be found here http://www.matildascause.com/

Movie Day for Tilly

Michelle and Stephanie are coming together to organise a fun day at the Movies in support of Tilly, so please join us on Sunday, 2nd December at 2pm, Event Cinemas Robina for the  pre release of Pitch Perfect starring Australia's Rebel Wilson.

Ticket cost $15.00 ($5 going to Tilly's fund raiser), Sweet's Buffet $5 per person ($5 going to Tilly's fund raiser) and we have plenty of amazing items donated from local Gold Coast businesses up for grabs in a silent auction and lots of fun to be had so come along & bring your friends in support of Tilly.

We will be raising funds in the hope to purchase Tilly a modified bicycle that costs $2000.  A modified bicycle will enable Tilly to have fun based therapy helping to strengthen and stretch her muscles and become more involved with her friends assuring she does not miss out on the simple things kids love doing – having fun!

And with any money left over it will go towards a specialised supportive chair enabling Tilly to learn functional sitting skills while she participates in activities at home and at school.

If you would like to join us please contact Michelle Brink - brink.michelle@ymail.com to secure your ticket or find out further information.

Looking forward to seeing you on the day.

September 2012

The remaining funds left over from the Standing frame and Chair. Tilly will be taking part in a Conductive Education program with a new therapist we will be seeing on a regular basis at the Gap in Brisbane. We will be doing 3 or 4 hour sessions (all depending on how Tilly copes) and the main focus is to get Tilly's trunk muscles activated in order to help her to sit better and independently. I've spoken to many mothers that take their children to see Dora and they all have great feedback, so we are looking forward to seeing some good results.

August 2012

Just letting you both know we have finally received Matilda's MyGo Standing frame and so far it's been a huge success.  She is loving and enjoying spending her time in the stander.  It not only allows Tilly to be upright but it helps her weight bear on both legs giving her muscles the chance to stretch out and build up strength.

The Wheelchair is still a few weeks away but it's getting closer so I'll let you both know when it arrives.

Thanks again

Angie

March 2012

A big thank you to everyone who attended or supported the Dream Workers Race Day.  We were very excited to have Mckenzie Comer perform on the day and dedicate a song to Tilly.

Watch the video of McKenzie singing to Tilly here.
